YMI Jeans Meeting
Today, I went to a meeting with YMI Jeans about their website redesign. I went with my boss, Jason (the guy that owns the company) and he asked me to be at work early; which obviously means I had to wake up early. Well I got to work and he was on his phone for an hour, and we didn’t end up leaving until after 10:00, which is usually when I get to work anyway.
Once we got on the road, he was on his phone the entire time. The guy lives on his phone. He’s constantly receiving and making calls, checking his email and voicemail… I’m surprised he doesn’t have it permanently attached to his ear. Actually, I’m more surprised that he doesnt use bluetooth. Which brings me to another point – making calls and checking your email while driving is not a great idea. I swear, we must have came to a screeching halt like ten times because he would look up at the road at the last second and we’d just barely make it without crashing into the car before us.
There was traffic all the way from Costa Mesa to Hollywood, and we finally got there around 11:30. My first impression of YMI Jeans is that they are surprisingly bigger than I thought they were. I’d never heard of them before now, but then again, I don’t really follow designer jeans. Being there kind of reminded me of the atmosphere at LifeScript’s editorial department (where I worked last year). It was very fashion driven and everyone there was very well put together. The walls were lined with frame after frame of their latest ad campaigns; gigantic versions of their stick-thin models wearing their best jeans.
During the meeting, I totally zoned out. We didn’t start talking about the design until the very end of the meeting, so in the meantime, I was totally oogling the guy sitting across from me. He was… delicious. I know I’m taken and all that, but damn – I had to look. I think he’s an Israeli native, and his accent probably tripled his hotness score; his hair was cut perfectly, his arms were friggin toned, and he was quite possibly the hottest man I’ve seen in 2008. Look… I haven’t had sex in months. So Brandon, forgive me, but I seriously wanted to jump across the table and pounce this guy.
So back on topic… They want a denim background… gag. They also want their in-house designer to do a comp even though she has very little web background. She does mostly print. She said she wasn’t a web-idiot, but to me that means… what… myspace? So it’s me against her. It’s not so bad, actually; a little competition is probably what I need these days.
I’m glad Kimmy saved some sushi for me so I could eat it when I got back from LA. On Fridays, Jason usually pays for sushi from the place around the corner, for the entire office. I’d mentioned being bummed out that I’d be missing it today.
